Costume design is the most character driven part of theatrical design. Set, lights, and props do most of the heavy lifting of creating the world the play, while costume design is how each character moves through that world. No matter how abstract or realist each individual piece, the costumes need to feel like choices made by the characters. Fashion is a performance where you are telling the story of yourself, and that’s why I am so drawn to costume design.
